Management of Stage IE Primary Gastric Lymphoma

“…Our results showed an 88% 5-year disease-free survival, which com pares favorably with the results reported for other patients with stage IE disease (most with intermediate histology) treated with various regimens during a similar time peri od [11,12,23,24], Optimal treatment for patients with intermediate histology is unresolved. In contrast to the report of Valicenti et al [24], in which most of the patients had local failure, our results showed that these patients had distant failure, suggesting that there may be a role for systemic treatment.…”

Both Taal et al [12] and Valicenti et al [24] reached similar conclusions. In addition, Rao et al [25] found an equivalent long-term cure with biopsy plus radiation versus resection plus radiation in patients with stage IE disease.…”
