Primary diffuse large b-cell lymphoma of the breast

Abstract: Primary breast diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a rare non-Hodgkin's lymphoma with limited data. In this study, a population-based study of primary breast DLBCL in the United States was performed to determine its incidence trends, prognostic factors, survival, the role of surgery as well as the comparison with nodal DLBCL. 1021 patients diagnosed with breast DLBCL were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) cancer registries from 1973-2014. The incidence of both breast and… Show more

“…They both present as painless breast mass, occasionally accompanied with erythema and edema in physical examination, and both show solitary mass with irregular margin on images [5, 6]. Fine needle biopsy is considered the golden standard for the diagnosis of breast cancer, while the pathological diagnosis of breast lymphoma is challenging because of its rare incidence and its difficulty in differentiating the lymphoid cells from reactive lymphocytes in the core needle biopsy samples [7]. Due to the diagnostic difficulties and great differences lying in the treatments of breast carcinoma and breast lymphoma, mistakes could be made frequently in the management of these two different breast malignancies.…”

“…La variedad más frecuente encontrada fue el Linfoma No Hodgkin difuso de células grandes B, lo que coincide con reportes previos [14,15]. Las técnicas de Inmunohistoquímica ofrecen relevante información acerca del tipo celular y ayudan a emplear el esquema terapéutico más adecuado incluso con anticuerpos específicos [16].…”

“…This subtype of lymphoma usually presents in the leg and if it is seen on the trunk, it usually presents with synchronous leg lesions. Diagnosis relies on histopathological characteristics and a high index of suspicion in clinically unusual presentations of breast pathology 1. The case highlighted to our team the importance of considering unusual pathological diagnoses when presented with atypical breast lesions.…”
