Preventive and Therapeutic Effects of Chinese Herbal Compounds against Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Abstract: Traditional Chinese Medicines, unique biomedical and pharmaceutical resources, have been widely used for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prevention and treatment. Accumulated Chinese herb-derived compounds with significant anti-cancer effects against HCC have been identified. Chinese herbal compounds are effective in preventing carcinogenesis, inhibiting cell proliferation, arresting cell cycle, inducing apoptosis, autophagy, cell senescence and anoikis, inhibiting epithelial-mesenchymal transition, metastasis … Show more

“…It is known that cell senescence is a stable, irreversible cell cycle arrest triggered by a variety of stimuli. 34 In our study, senescenceassociated β-galactosidase staining revealed that CD38 may decrease cell senescence in cervical cancer. We inferred that CD38 decreased cell senescence as a result of promoting cell proliferation and accelerating the transition of cell cycle stages.…”

“…Chinese herbal medicines have been widely used for HCC prevention and treatment as a noticeable choice for its multi-level, multi-target and coordinated intervention effects and their significant anti-cancer effects against HCC have been identified, such as curcumin, baicalein, resveratrol etc., indicating that Chinese herbal compounds represent an important medical and pharmaceutical resource for the development of new treatments for HCC [2, 3]. …”
