Prevalence of Occult Hepatitis C Virus Infection among Blood Donors in Jiangsu, China

Abstract: Objective: In 2010, only 1 donor blood sample was found to be anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) negative and HCV RNA positive, as detected by nucleic acid testing. In occult HCV infection (OCI), HCV RNA is found in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). We investigated the prevalence of OCI among blood donors. Methods: We collected 513 samples from 334 eligible and 179 deferred donors, including 55 anti-HCV-positive, 113 alanine aminotransferase (ALT)-elevated, and 11 hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg)-… Show more

“…The pattern can be used for predicting the paths for a new patient. In [8], hidden Markov model (HMM) was adopted for inferring the CP pattern, which was useful in knowledge sharing and CP updating. While these methods were severely limited to the data deficiency and complexity and because CPs focus on the order relations between various clinical events, process mining technologies are widely used for CPM.…”

“…Three of these 42 donors (7.1%) had occult HCV infection. In another recent study in China that included blood samples from blood donors that were anti-HCV negative and in which it was determined in PBMC, a prevalence of 2.2% was found [17].…”

“…This result closed to other investigation of Shazly et al (2015) [21] who documented that OCI was 4% in healthy Egyptian individual partners of patients infected with chronic HEPATITIS C VIRUS genotype 4 infection. Also in hemodialysis patients Abdurrahman et al (2016) [22] detect OCI (3.7%) in 81 at Mania-Egypt, Also Maria de la Luz Martinez-Rodríguez 2018 [23] in Mexico City documented OCI 3.4% in blood donors Samples, Lin H 2016 documented OCI 2.2%in China [24] and Quinoa JA 2016 OCI is 2.1% Spain [25].…”
