Abstract: We aimed to assess the prevalence of CKD in the Black Sea Region, Turkey, and to evaluate any relationship between age, gender, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and CKD. This study was conducted in 70 different areas in Tokat Province in the Black Sea Region, in the northern part of Turkey. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was calculated from the serum creatinine using MDRD formulas. CKD-defined estimated GFR was lower than 60 mL/min/1.73 m(2). A total of 1,079 persons were included in this stud… Show more

“…CKD prevalence breakdown was provided in seventy-four populations. The breakdown by stage using all available data was Stage-1 (eGFR>90+ACR>30): 3·5%(2·8–4·2%); Stage-2 (eGFR 60–89+ACR>30): 3·9%(2·7–5·3%); Stage-3 (eGFR 30–59): 7·6%(6·4–8·9%); Stage-4 = (eGFR 29–15): 0·4%(0·3–0·5%); and Stage-5 (eGFR<15): 0·1%(0·1–0·1%).…”

“…Previous studies of the impact of gender on kidney disease have showed that men also progress at a faster rate to ESRD than do women [15]. Contrarily, in Turkey, the prevalence of ESRD was markedly higher in women than men [16].…”
