Prevalence, Epidemiological Characteristics, and Pharmacotherapy of Coronary Artery Disease among Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Data from Jo-Fib Study

Abstract: Background and Objectives: Patients with AF are at increased risk for Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) owing to their shared etiologies and risk factors. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, cardiovascular risk factors, and used medications of CAD in AF patients. Materials and Methods: This retrospective, case-control study utilized data from the Jordanian Atrial Fibrillation (Jo-Fib) registry. Investigators collected clinical features, history of co-existing comorbidities, CHA2DS2-VASc, and HAS BLED scores… Show more

“…The Jordan AF (JoFib) Study is a multicenter registry that enrolled a cohort of ME patients with valvular AF (VAF) and nonvalvular AF (NVAF) and followed them for one year. The baseline features of the studied population, adherence to the use of oral anticoagulant agents (OACs) and the one-year outcome in the whole cohort were published earlier [ 15 16 ]. The current analysis presents an analysis of baseline clinical and echocardiographic profiles, pharmacotherapy and one-year incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events in AF patients who have CAD compared to those who do not have CAD.…”

“…This disease is characterized by rapid, irregular atrial contractions, leading to diminished cardiac output and symptoms like palpitations and dizziness [ 7 ]. It also increases the risk of thrombotic events, such as strokes, due to heightened blood clot formation [ 8 , 9 ], and this further increases the development of coronary heart disease [ 10 ]. Research has elucidated a significant association between AF and endothelial dysfunction, establishing it as a potential risk factor for the onset of coronary heart disease [ 11 ].…”
