Prevalence, awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: BackgroundResearchers have conducted a considerable number of epidemiological studies on dyslipidemia in China over recent years. Nevertheless, a representative study to comprehensively appraise for the epidemiological status of dyslipidemia is still lacked. This meta-analysis is intended to explore the pooled prevalence, rates of awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia among adults in Chinese Mainland.Materials and methodsA systematic review was performed on relevant cross-sectional studies publishe… Show more

“…This might be related to the low awareness regarding dyslipidaemia in adults, despite the fact that females seem to be more conscious versus men about this cardiometabolic disorder. 85 Moreover, women who were already suffering from hypertriglyceridaemia might have been more aware of their lipid profile and tended to seek active measures, for example, lifestyle changes, to prevent supplementary elevations in serum TG concentrations, as previous investigations have depicted that hypertriglyceridaemia is higher in patients who display little knowledge regarding the major cardiovascular risk factors. 86 Moreover, the dose-response meta-analysis pointed out negative correlations between the changes in TG and HDL-C concentrations and MPA dosage, revealing that administration of MPA for less than 12 weeks actually decreased TG levels, possibly suggesting that short-term prescription of MPA may also be of aid to females with hypertriglyceridaemia.…”

“…Interestingly, TG increased predominantly in females younger than 60 years and in those who were not suffering from hypertriglyceridaemia before RCT enrolment. This might be related to the low awareness regarding dyslipidaemia in adults, despite the fact that females seem to be more conscious versus men about this cardiometabolic disorder 85 .
