Prevalence and Associated Symptoms ofHelicobacter pyloriInfection among Schoolchildren in Kassala State, East of Sudan

Abstract: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of H. pylori infections among schoolchildren and investigate the associations between H. pylori seropositivity and existence of gastrointestinal symptoms. Methods. A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted during a period from January to December 2012 at Kassala state, east of Sudan. Schoolchildren from different primary schools were enrolled in the study. Sociodemographic characteristics and gastrointestinal symptoms were recorded from each child. A rapid i… Show more

“…(59) However, molecular tests and PCR technology have been raised as a useful alternative means of bacterial identification, which may circumvent some of these difficulties (59,60) but has limited mainly by contamination and inadequate sensitivity issues. (61) (18,19,(62)(63)(64)(65) Tetracycline is one of the 30S-targeting antibiotics that inhibit translation elongation by sterically interfering with the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the A-site of the ribosome. (66) Therefore, mutations located in two domains (III and IV) in 16S rRNA: helix 34 and the loop next to helix 31 (67) can affect the conformation of the tetracycline-binding site, leading to high-level resistance.…”

“…In Sudan, no reports addressing this manner were existed. Previous studies investigating the seroprevalence of H. pylori among Sudanese using ELISA and rapid immunochromatographic tests for the detection of H. pylori IgM and IgG antibodies, reported a seroprevalence ranging from 20% up to 70% [32][33][34][35]. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the presence of H. pylori infections among Sudanese patients diagnosed with colon polyps and colon cancer and to correlate between its presence and the type of the lesions.…”
