Pressure-induced enhancement of the critical current density in superconductingYBa2Cu3Oxbicrystalline rings

Abstract: The dependence of the critical current density J c ͑T͒ on hydrostatic He-gas pressure to 0.6 GPa is determined for nearly optimally doped and strongly underdoped melt-textured YBa 2 Cu 3 O x bicrystalline rings containing single ͓001͔-tilt grain boundaries ͑GBs͒ with mismatch angles from 0°to 31°. For all samples with Ͼ 0°, J c is found to increase rapidly under pressure, the rate of increase lying predominantly in the range +20 to +50 % GPa −1 . Within a simple tunneling model, this rate of increase is far to… Show more

“…A recent report also shows enhanced J c in a pnictide single crystal which is free of grain boundaries282930. As mentioned earlier, polycrystalline superconducting materials are commonly used in practical applications, as they are easy to fabricate at low cost as compared to single crystals/thin films.…”

“…According to the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation, high pressure can affect the grain boundaries by reducing the tunnelling barrier width ( W) and the tunnelling barrier height ( L) for polycrystalline bulks, in accordance with the following simple mathematical expression303132:…”
