“…The asymmetric stretching vibration of free and hydrogenbonded structural -OH groups (3632 cm −1 and 3420 cm −1 , respectively) as well as the hydrogen-bonded water bending band at 1633 cm −1 (Heidarian et al, 2010) were of particular interest as both structural -OH and water were capable of reacting with -NCO groups. Vibrations at 2928 and 2853 cm −1 were due to the asymmetric and symmetric -CH stretching vibrations (Bagherzadeh and Mousavinejad, 2012), which were assigned to the hydrocarbon chains of the organic ammonium ions present in this modified clay. The N-C stretching vibration of the ammonium ions that reportedly occurs at 1060-1090 cm − 1 (Thakur and Karak, 2013) was invisible due to its strong overlap with the Si-O stretching band at 1042 cm − 1 .…”

“…The PAniC-Sc coating showed superior long-term stability and corrosion resistance. Previous studies on blank (i.e., only resin and hardener) water-based epoxy coatings [21] resulted in blisters of size 6 and severe corrosion of the underlying steel with large shadows after only 20 days of exposure (also ASTM B117). Therefore, with the addition of only 0.07 wt.% PAniC NCs, the protection against corrosion is significantly enhanced.…”

“…MMT has been employed in a large number of polymer composite systems due to its structure, high aspect ratio and high surface area that could potentially lead to materials with significantly enhanced properties [13]. These layered silicates, when uniformly dispersed into a polymer matrix provide enhanced strength [14], modulus [15][16][17], thermal stability [18,19], barrier properties [20,21], and inflammability [22,23].…”

“…Initially all Nyquist plots displayed one capacitive arc whereas after 72 h of electrolyte exposure the impedance spectra of the systems varied significantly (Fig.5b) [37]. indicates that an optimised concentration is achieved at 500 ppm after which the inhibition begins to decrease.…”
