Preparation and Characterization of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized via Chemical Precipitation Method

Abstract: Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) were synthesized via chemical precipitation method using copper (II) chloride dihydrate and sodium hydroxide. Then nanoparticles were characterized by using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX), and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. The XRD patterns and EDX spectra showed that the prepared CuO-NPs were highly pure, crystalline and nano-sized. The SEM image suggested that nano particles were spherical and t… Show more

“…With the 4000X magnification, semi-spherical grains of CuO can be well defined. Similar morphologies were reported in previous research such as in [24] where CuO particles were prepared via chemical precipitation method using Copper (II) chloride dehydrate as a precursor and annealed at 600 o C. Sample P20 corresponds to a PEG wt% = 20% of the total solvent weight percentage. According to [25], a porous structure can be obtained after the coat heat treatment where full vaporization of PEG chain structure takes place leaving cavities behind.…”

“…The elemental analysis conrmed that the synthesized sample was CuO, which is in a good agreement with the results of XRD and the literature. 43,44 The average crystallite size of the CuONPs derived from XRD measurements was about 13 nm from XRD data while their average hydrodynamic diameter measured by DLS was about 93 nm with a surface charge around +37 mV as presented in Fig. S2 and S4 (ESI †).…”

“…Environmental benign synthesis of CuNPs by using plant extracts [19]. In brief, accurately weighed 0.49 g of CuSO 4 .5H 2 O was liquefied in 20 mL of de-ionised water and stirring was continued for 30 min under magnetic stirrer until clear liquid was achieved.…”
