Preparation and antioxidant activities of polysaccharides obtained from abalone viscera by combination of enzymolysis and multiple separation methods

Abstract: Abalone viscera were byproducts of the abalone processing and usually discarded as wastes. In this study, we tried to obtain functional polysaccharides from abalone viscera by a combination of enzymatic hydrolysis, membrane separation, anion exchange chromatography, and gel filtration techniques. Abalone viscera underwent successive hydrolyzation with alcalase and flavourzyme. Each enzymolysis was followed by deproteinization via membrane separation. The final yield of crude abalone viscera polysaccharide (CAV… Show more

“…The content of sulfate group is significantly different with different extraction methods and sources, which leads to significant differences in the activity of MSPs from different sources or even the same source. MSPs from abalone have a variety of fragments, and their activity is related to molecular weight and sulfate content [92,93]. A fraction named AGP33 with sulfates occur at 3-O-and 4-O-positions showed a better anticoagulant activity than its desulfated product [93].…”

“…Along with the high consumption rate of abalone meat. the abandonment of processing waste is more than 27,000 tons (based on 15% of discard rate) of viscera and gonad tissue every year [ 28 ]. Therefore, abalone protein and peptide are becoming a very promising candidate for dietary nutrients and skin care products [ 25 ].…”

“…The molecular weights of the PEP-1 and PEP-2 were determined using high-performance gel permeation chromatography (HPGPC, 1260 Infinity MDS, Agilent, USA) with a deferential refraction detector and a multi-angle laser light scatterer (Guo et al, 2020). The content of monosaccharide was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (1200, Agilent, USA) as reported by Liu et al (2020).…”
