Preoperative Risk Score Predicting 90-Day Mortality After Liver Resection in a Population-Based Study

Abstract: The impact of important preexisting comorbidities, such as liver and renal disease, on the outcome of liver resection remains unclear. Identification of patients at risk of mortality will aid in improving preoperative preparations. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a population-based score based on available preoperative and predictable parameters predicting 90-day mortality after liver resection using data from a hepatitis endemic country. We identified 13,159 patients who underwent liver re… Show more

“…There is also wide regional variations in indications of liver resections. In Asian countries most common indication is hepatocellular carcinoma [54] while in European countries most common indications is colorectal metastasis, which can also be reason of variable mortality following liver resection. Our Aim in conducting this systemic review and prevalence meta-analysis to study weighted post-operative mortality rates after liver resections.…”

“…Treatment options for HCC are largely inferred by patient, livers, and tumor factors at presentation and these factors form the backbone of a number of well-adopted treatment algorithms (Table 2). 5963 The association between general health condition and prognosis of HCC had been well documented 22,59,6467. In general, patients with poor cardiopulmonary function, limited life expectancy, or poor quality of life (i.e., bedridden and noncommunicable) due to underlying medical comorbidities are not a surgical candidate.…”
