Objectives: to measure the prevalence of acquiring and evaluating the level of completion of the pregnant women's medical booklet on the occasion of childbirth in Rio Grande, Brazil. Methods: this is a cross-sectional study including all puerperals residing in this municipality in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016. The mothers were interviewed at the only two local maternities up to 48 hours after childbirth. The data from the pregnant woman’s medical booklet were copied on a standard form. The chi-square test was used to compare proportions. Results: 10,242 pregnant women were included in this study. Of these, 54.8% (CI95%=53.8%-55.7%) had their pregnant woman's medical booklet with them at the time of admission. The completion pattern of the pregnant woman's medical booklet is divided into three groups, namely: with at least 95%: date of the last consultation visit, maternal height and blood pressure verification, uterine height, cardio-fetal heart rate and the Rh factor; 85% or more: date of the last menstruation, qualitative urine test, VDRL and HIV; and less than 30%: performance of clinical breast examination and cytopathology of the uterine cervix. In the private sector, the acquisition of the pregnant woman's medical booklet was 41% lower than at the public sector (62% vs. 44%). Conclusions: the use of the pregnant woman's medical booklet and its completion were lower than expected on several items. Local managers need to work together with the health professionals and these health professionals should work with the mothers to promote the full use of this essential document for the maternal and child's health.

RESUMOObjetivo: analisar as evidências científicas quanto à utilização da Caderneta de Saúde da Criança pelos profissionais de saúde para a vigilância do crescimento e desenvolvimento infantil. Método: trata-se um estudo bibliográfico, tipo revisão integrativa, com buscas nas bases de dados LILACS e BDENF e na biblioteca virtual SCIELO, utilizando os Descritores em Ciências da Saúde; crescimento e desenvolvimento, atenção primária à saúde e registros de saúde pessoal, que foram cruzados com o descritor criança empregando-se o operador booleano and. Selecionaram-se 15 artigos publicados entre 2014 a 2018 e os resultados apresentam-se em forma de figura. Resultados: evidenciou-se, nos estudos, a precária utilização da CSC, que está relacionada à ausência e à fragilidade de registros, à dificuldade de os profissionais perceberem a relevância do preenchimento, ao conhecimento deficiente dos profissionais, à insuficiência de orientações às famílias, além da participação da família nesse processo. Conclusão: compromete-se, pela precariedade da utilização da CSC, a vigilância da saúde infantil por ser este o instrumento essencial para o acompanhamento do crescimento e do desenvolvimento da criança. Results: the poor use of CHB was evidenced in the studies, which is related to the absence and fragility of records, the difficulty of professionals to perceive the relevance of filling, poor knowledge of professionals, insufficient guidance to families, besides the participation of the family in this process. Conclusion: due to the precarious nature of the use of CHB, it is committed to monitoring child health as this is the essential instrument for monitoring child growth and development. Objetivo: analisar a atuação do enfermeiro da atenção primária em saúde na assistência à criança e sua família. Método: trata-se de estudo qualitativo, descritivo, com quinze enfermeiros. Realizou-se a coleta de dados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas guiadas por um roteiro com a seguinte questão << Qual a função do enfermeiro na assistência à criança na atenção primária em saúde? >>. Utilizou-se, para a análise das falas, a técnica de Análise de Conteúdo na modalidade Análise Categorial. Resultados: emergiram-se duas categorias: Acompanhamento da criança por meio da consulta de Puericultura e Consultas em grupo como estratégia de orientação da criança e suas famílias. Conclusão: perpassa-se a atuação do enfermeiro pelo contexto biopsicossocial e familiar da criança na identificação de problemas de saúde, na detecção de situações de risco e vulnerabilidades e nas orientações pertinentes a cada caso. Abstract Objective: to analyze the role of primary health care nurses in the care of children and their families. Method: this is a qualitative, descriptive study with fifteen nurses. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews guided by a script with the following question << What is the role of nurses in child care in primary health care? >>. For the analysis of the speeches, the technique of Content Analysis in the Categorical Analysis modality was used. Results: two categories emerged: Child follow-up through the Childcare consultation and Group consultations as a strategy for guiding the child and their families. Conclusion: the role of the nurse is analyzed by the child's biopsychosocial and family context in the identification of health problems, in the detection of risk situations and vulnerabilities, and in the guidance relevant to each case.
