“…When pooled, the results of a few controlled trials comparing oral corticosteroids alone to oral corticosteroids in association with an adjuvant therapy suggested that the rate of disease control was 0% with 0.3 mg/kg (18), 60–80% with 1 mg/kg (1821), and 90% with 1.5 mg/kg of prednisolone (18). Based on the above results and on the demonstration that the prednisolone brand available in France had a poorer biodisponibility than prednisone (22), most French teams agreed on routinely treating BP patients with oral prednisone at an initial dosage of 1 mg/kg/day. This initial dose was maintained for two weeks after the control of the disease, and the prednisone dose was then tapered by 15% every two weeks for a total duration of treatment of about one year.…”
