A method of indirect rationing of diesel fuel for special self-propelled rolling stock is presented, based on the identification of actual fuel consumption and controlled operating modes. Based on the results of test trips using automated accounting systems for operating modes and fuel consumption, the method allows us to assess reasonable volumes of fuel consumption in a specific section of the railway infrastructure. We show how the methods of identifying actual fuel consumption and operating modes can establish consumption rates of special self-propelled rolling stock without the use of automated fuel metering. The identification method is based on solving a multifactorial equation, the coefficients of which are determined in a program with statistical functions. To eliminate multicollinearity problems, the use of cluster analysis methods is proposed. Unlike traditional calculation methods, the method allows for the determination of the norming indicators in conditions of incomplete and partially incorrect data. The study was conducted using data on fuel consumption of special self-propelled rolling stock at a particular railway range and the relevant regulatory documents provided by Russian Railways. The results were obtained by applying the method to special self-propelled rolling stock used in the electrification and railway track departments of Russian Railways. The proposed method allows for simulation of the indicator of normalized fuel consumption with an accuracy not worse than 96%. Based on the obtained model of normalized fuel consumption, the method and parameters for identifying abnormal and unauthorized fuel overconsumption are shown. The criteria for identifying abnormal fuel overconsumption using the normalized standard deviation function were determined.

The article provides the results of a study to assess the effectiveness of automation of diesel fuel consumption accounting for a certain type of special self-propelled rolling stock of the company Russian Railways. The main current provisions of the fuel consumption assessment are considered. It is proposed to supplement the provisions on the adjustment of fuel consumption standards by identification methods. The identification method includes monitoring actual values, performance indicators, rolling stock mileage and fuel consumption forecasts. The analysis showed that the efficiency of fuel consumption automation can be as high as 30%. The effect is achieved by fulfilling the forecast fuel consumption standards and eliminating unauthorized fuel overruns.

To increase the diagnostic efficiency, significantly reduce the unproductive time, and mainly increase the reliability and accuracy, we propose a new method and tools implementing it - an oscillographic method for monitoring the pressure and phase parameters during the dynamic change in the operating parameters. The proposed work is aimed at improving the internal combustion engine (ICE) performance by timely diagnosing the cylinder-piston group (CPG) and its maintenance based on the diagnostic results. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the establishment of the interconnection of the CPG parameters obtained in the test modes of the ICE operation, allowing us to justify the diagnostic modes and their limiting values; the development of diagnostic methods and tools allowing us to justify the test modes for diagnosing the ICE CPG; the experimental data, which revealed that the instantaneous pressure signal in the combustion chamber is a sensitive diagnostic sign, which reflects the technical condition of the ICE CPG and its elements; the results of the experimental studies of diagnosing the ICE CPG in test modes. The results of the experimental work were compared with the results of theoretical modeling, the convergence between them was 97–99%. The production validation of the new method demonstrated the reliability within 0.92–0.97.
