Precise Personalized Medicine in Gynecology Cancer and Infertility

Abstract: Since the conception of precision medicine has been put forward in oncology, this idea has been popularized and applied in many specialties. Significant progress has been made toward personalizing the entire process, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and embryo identification, and combining large-scale genetic information data and knowledge discovery can offer better prospects in reproductive medicine. This work reviews the application of precision medicine and possibilities in reproductive medicine and… Show more

“…Initially, personalized medicine (PM) was dedicated to oncological patients and focused on knowledge of genes, proteins, and the environment in diagnostics, prophylaxis, prognosis, treatment, and categorization of patients [ 8 ]. This approach gave surprisingly good results in optimizing the therapy in oncology, hence the attempts to use PM in other fields of medicine, including dermatology, endocrinology, cardiology, orthopedics, psychiatry, or in reproductive medicine [ 2 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ]. The implementation of this idea in reproductive medicine offers considerable opportunities, as individual treatment of a specific person or a couple going beyond traditional clinical practice can significantly improve the effectiveness of the treatment [ 4 ].…”

“…This is why there is an increasing need for personalizing diagnostic and therapeutic methods according to the condition of each infertile woman [ 5 ]. The concept of personalized medicine, also called precision medicine or molecular medicine, was applied with success in the management of gynecologic cancer and is currently gaining ground in the field of reproductive medicine, too [ 43 ].…”

“…Therefore, precision medicine has received more and more attention in recent years, which could significantly compensate for the shortcomings of conventional strategies ( Figure 2 ). Simply, patient’s sample-based multi-omics analysis could comprehensively demonstrate the underlying risk, suitable patients, novel drug targets, and promising combination therapies ( Zhang and Yu, 2020 ). Not only that, precision medicine will also accelerate the process of clinical transformation, the cells and patient-derived xenograft (PDX)-based drug screening could enhance the efficacy of clinical trials ( Wang et al, 2018a ).…”
