Power and Energy Analysis of BLDC Motors: Impact of Vibration on Performance

Abstract

This research paper focuses on the vital role of Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors in hybrid vehicle propulsion due to their efficiency and compact design. The primary objective is to evaluate BLDC motor performance within a vehicle chassis, with a specific focus on vibration characteristics. An innovative rotational tracker program is introduced to identify rotating machinery faults efficiently, reducing computational costs and aiding machinery selection for specific applications. The research involves comparing vibration characteristics of BLDC and stepper motors, using a 4kW BLDC motor to measure displacements along the X, Y, and Z axes within specified RPM and torque ranges while monitoring current variations during chassis installation. Findings emphasize the significance of proper motor installation in hybrid vehicle design to mitigate increased vibration levels. This study has implications for motor manufacturers and vehicle designers, underlining the importance of considering vibration performance during motor installation. It concludes by suggesting further research on broader RPM range BLDC motors and on-road measurements to advance understanding in the context of hybrid vehicle propulsion.
