Abstract: The dourado, Salminus brasiliensis, a large, carnivorous, Neotropical, Characin, is highly regarded for fish farming and sport fishing alike. However, studies on the farming and husbandry of dourado are still scarce. This study evaluated the performance of dourado fed diets formulated so as to contain increasing levels of poultry by-product meal as a replacement for fish meal and aimed to identify the maximum level of replacement to maximize profit. The trial was set up in a closed recirculation system with co… Show more

“…In addition, increasing gambusia meal reduced the cost of Nil tilapia diet, however, the cost-benefit analysis revealed that gambusia could only replace 50% of FM in terms of lower cost per unit of weight-gain compared to the control or other higher replacement levels [63]. The maximum profit was recorded by replacing 31.6% of dietary FM with poultry by-product meal in the diet of dourado, Salminus brasiliensis [64]. Interestingly, the present findings revealed that the use of DMM as a FM replacer reached 75-100% with a positive follow in the mullet performance and economic benefit.…”

“…In this study, the effects of enzymatic hydrolysates from poultry by-products as an alternative source of fish meal on turbot were evaluated. Poultry by-product as animal protein source has a more balanced amino acid composition compared to plant proteins, and the source is extensive and rich (Donadelli, Aguilar, Sonoda, & Cyrino, 2019). In addition to growth and immune performances, gut tissue sections, gut microbiota and hepatic proteome were studied for a comprehensive assessment of the effects of enzymatic hydrolysates on nutrition, physiology and health of turbot.…”
