“…It regulates neurogenesis in the hippocampus and protects dopaminergic neurons by activating nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2), the master regulator of the antioxidant response [ 24 , 26 , 34 , 103 ] It also upregulates β-tubulin, neuroD1, doublecortin (DCX), neurogenin, neuroligin, and neuregulin and downregulates the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (Stat3) [ 104 ]. These processes lead to improved memory retention [ 84 , 89 , 105 , 106 , 107 ] as was achieved with the application of 50 mg/kg of curcumin for 3 months or 200 mg/kg of curcumin for 45 days to transgenic mice [ 106 , 108 ]. Yin et al [ 109 ] demonstrated that curcumin improved cognitive function via the promotion of axonal regeneration.…”

“…Similarly, Patel and co-workers (2020) witness that Lactobacillus rhamnosus UBLR-58 could increase SOD, GPx, and CAT in brain tissue, thereby acting as an antioxidant agent [ 88 ]. A study conducted by Cogliati and co-workers (2020) on the efficacy of Bacillus subtilis NCIB3610 and Escherichia soli OP50 on AD model of Caenorhabditis elegans shows favourable results as well.…”

“…Both the probiotic and the placebo will be administered after breakfast for ten weeks under identical conditions. The probiotic strains selected have shown to be effective in similar populations or in cognitive function (Agahi et al, 2018; Czajeczny et al, 2021; Kelly et al, 2017; Mehrabadi & Sadr, 2020; Oh et al, 2020; Patel et al, 2020; Sanborn et al, 2020; Yang et al, 2020), and the time duration has been predicted based on previous studies exploring the influence of probiotics on cognitive and emotional functions (Ruiz‐Gonzalez et al, 2021). Assessments will be conducted in three stages: at the start of the trial, following the intervention (10 weeks), and at study end (20 weeks).…”
