Abstract: Objective:To analyze potential intravenous drug interactions, and their level of severity associated with the administration of these drugs based on the prescriptions of an intensive care unit. Method: Quantitative study, with a retrospective exploratory design, and descriptive statistical analysis of the ICU prescriptions of a teaching hospital from March to June 2014. Results: The sample consisted of 319 prescriptions and subsamples of 50 prescriptions. The mean number of drugs per patient was 9.3 records, a… Show more

“…We must not forget the consequences that drug interactions cause in the onset of adverse effects and the disruption of the desired pharmacotherapeutic response, which is translated into a longer hospital stay, without a clear direct impact on mortality outcomes of critical care patients (Moreira et al, 2017;Papadopoulos & Smithburger, 2010;Pichala et al, 2013;Rivkin & Yin, 2011;Uysal et al, 2020).…”

“…Complexity of pathophysiological processes of these patients and their medical regimens predispose to drug malabsorption, distribution, metabolism and/or excretion, therefore, of the pharmacological response, being capable of inducing a potential adverse effect (Papadopoulos & Smithburger, 2010;Pichala et al, 2013). As a result of the widespread variety of existing pharmacological products, the theoretical and potential medical interactions are limitless, so it remains vital to identify, classify and appraise their degree of severity (Moreira et al, 2017).…”
