Abstract: ABSTRACT. Attalea vitrivir Zona (synonym Orbignya oleifera) is one of the six species of Arecaceae known as "babassu". This species is used to make cosmetics, food, and detergents due to the high concentration of oil in the seeds. It is found only in fragmented areas of southern Bahia State and northern Minas Gerais State, southeast Brazil, and this fragmentation has affected both its ecological and genetic characteristics. We evaluated the genetic diversity and population genetic structure of A. vitrivir in s… Show more

“…The H O value was significantly lower than the H E value in all the populations, except G. This result is consistent with the high value of the fixation index. The value of N A and the number of private alleles in SR was far higher than those in other samples, possibly because of the large disparities in sample size (Santos, 2015). The pairwise genetic differentiation values (F ST ) calculated for the samples from five regions showed genetic differentiation between each region (Table 5), with the values ranging from -0.00642 to 0.02862.…”

“…Population genetic parameters, including N a, N e, I , H o, and H e, were calculated using microsatellite data excluding loci with null alleles to estimate the variation among the samples obtained from six different provinces, as well as the three clusters, at the structure level (Table 1 ). Among the six provinces, the value of N a and the number of private alleles in GD was higher than those in other provinces, which may have been due to the larger sample size 27 . HN contained the fewest individuals, had the lowest N a, and lacked any private alleles.…”

“…Recently the genetic structure of basically the same populations analyzed here were investigated by using nine ISSR (Inter Simple Sequence Repeat) primers (Santos et al, 2015). Now we presented the results of an analysis using a considerably higher number of markers in addition of having a codominant inheritance, which allowed a more precise estimates of some genetic parameters.…”
