Population Diversity of Mosquito Fauna in and around Tandojam- Pakistan

Abstract: Research work was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of mosquito genera in Tandojam and its surroundings from May to June 2010. A total of 2316 mosquito samples were collected which belongs to five genera viz; Culex, Anopheles, Aedes, Uranotaenia and Psorophora comprising 49%, 16%, 1.4%, 11.7% and 21.8% respectively. A total of 563 mosquitoes were collected from marshy/swampy areas, Psorophora were the most abundant 218 (38.7%) followed by 138 (24.5%), 123 (21.8%) and 84 (14.9%) Uranotaenia, Anopheles an… Show more

“…Mosquitoes are cosmopolitan and are found in all types of habitats such as sewage water, stagnant water and fresh water. Many species of mosquitoes are adaptable to their specific habitats such as Aedes species are adaptable to cooler regions where their eggs are more dominant compared to the warmer regions (Gadahi et al, 2012).…”

“…Likewise, certain studies have been conducted in various regions of Pakistan reporting the mosquito fauna that have related the relative abundance of different species with the gradual shift in climatic trend ( 11 15 ). The relationship between the biodiversity of mosquitoes in Lahore with its climatic conditions was studied in 2013.…”

“…DH plants are fully fertile and if suitable can be used as parents or released as a cultivar by breeding programs. DHs have been widely used for cultivar development, genetic mapping, mutagenesis, and gene function studies (Ferrie and Mollers, 2011; Hussain et al, 2012) [10,16] . However, distorted segregation ratios can be observed, reducing the accuracy of geneticmaps.…”
