Polysciosides J and K, two new oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins from the leaves ofPolyscias fruticosa(L.) harms. cultivating in An Giang Province, Viet Nam

Abstract: For the first time, the phytochemical constituents of the leaves of Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms. cultivating in An Giang Province, Viet Nam were investigated and led to purify two new oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins, named polyscioside J (1) and polyscioside K (2) together with two known saponins, ladyginoside A (3) and chikusetsusaponin IVa (4) using variously chromatographic methods. Saponin (4) was reported for the first time from this species. Their structures were verified by IR, UV, HR-ESI-MS, NMR… Show more

“…This structure was also supported by the negative-ion ESI-MS/MS analysis (Figure 3). Compound 1 was hydrolyzed and subsequently methylated to give polyscioside J (7), [16] which was crystallized from MeOH-H 2 O and subjected to X-ray crystallographic studies (Figure 4). The absolute configuration of 7 was unambiguously confirmed using the anomalous scat- tering of Cu Kα radiation with the Flack parameter [17,18] being refined to 0.12 (15).…”

“…The mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 10 min and evaporated to dryness. The residue was subjected to ODS CC with MeOH‐H 2 O (1 : 1) to obtain polyscioside J [16] ( 7 ) (3 mg).…”

“…These results are in accordance with other studies [1,7,8,16] reporting oleanolic acid saponins as major components of P. fruticosa. PFS and LadA were found in the leaves and roots of P. fruticosa plants [7][8][9]. Moreover, the PFS saponin is quantitatively the primary compound isolated from leaves and roots of P. fruticosa plants.…”

“…The major constituent of P. fruticosa root extracts is known as saponins (approximately 1.65%) [12,13]. Saponins are naturally occurring glycosides with significant structural variability and are widely recognized as a natural anti-cancer agent [14].…”
