Polymorphisms in the P-selectin (CD62P) and P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) genes and coronary heart disease

Abstract: P-selectin and its ligand, PSGL-1, are cell adhesion molecules that facilitate interaction of platelets, leukocytes and endothelial cells. Polymorphisms of these genes have been reported to be associated with coronary heart disease (CHD). In the present study, we characterized the entire coding regions of P-selectin and PSGL-1 genes in CHD patients and healthy controls. The 17 exons of the P-selectin gene and exon 2 of the PSGL-1 gene were screened for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) by exon re-sequenci… Show more

“…The association did not survive correction for multiple testing. Nevertheless, the association of rs2228315 with coronary artery disease and stroke has been shown by two studies [14,15]. Third, regression analysis did not show that stroke was correlated with known vascular risk factors but also revealed PLA as independently correlated with stroke.…”

“…A new polymorphism (V168M) in exon 5 of P-selectin gene has also been described. Further analysis should be performed to elucidate its functional role [64].…”

“…One such variant, a single nucleotide polymorphism that produces the amino acid substitution Thr715Pro, has consistently been associated with lower sP-selectin concentrations in plasma (25)(26)(27), but the data on the effect of this variant on myocardial infarction and stroke are conflicting (25)(26)(27)(28)(29).…”
