Plate‐shape carbonated hydroxyapatite/collagen nanocomposite hydrogel via in situ mineralization of hydroxyapatite concurrent with gelation of collagen at pH = 7.4 and 37°C

Abstract: The objective of this study was to develop a collagen/hydroxyapatite (HA) nanocomposite scaffold for bone tissue engineering applications. For this purpose, in situ mineralization of HA was accompanied with formation of collagen hydrogel at condition similar to the physiological condition, pH = 7.4, and 37 C. The physicochemical and biological properties of the in situ scaffold were compared with nanocomposite fabricated by mixing HA powder and collagen hydrogel (powder-mixed scaffold). The HA in this method w… Show more

“…The diffraction pattern of pure Col hydrogel showed a broad peak that indicated an amorphous structure of collagen. 52 The peaks at 2θ values of 31° and 45° in the XRD patterns of Col and Col/CSGO hydrogels might be due to presence of NaCL in hydrogels. 53 As PBS is used for hydrogel preparation, the presence of PBS salts in the final dried hydrogel is possible.…”

“…A low level of WVTR will cause the accumulation of exudates while an extreme level of WVTR water evaporates at the injury site, leading to a state of dehydration. An optimum range of WVTR within the range of 2028.3 ± 237.8 g/m 2 /day is essential to maintain a moist environment, as well as to enhance the normal healing phase [ 76 ].…”

“…Collagen hydrogel, Co/HA hydrogel and in-situ collagen/HA scaffolds were prepared and fabricated as previously described by Takallu et al, (2019). 11 A total of 13.9 mg collagen was dissolved in 1.8 ml acetic acid (0.02 M) for preparation of collagen scaffold. To reach a transparent solution with collagen concentration of 7.72 mg.ml-1 the solution was HA/Co under magnetic stirring.…”

“…10 Incorporation of inorganic materials such as hydroxyapatite in polymeric hydrogels has been shown to be a suitable option to overcome these problems. 11 Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is one of the main inorganic components of bone. It is widely applied in the field of BTE owing to its excellent osteoconductivity, biocompatibility, and biointegration properties.…”
