“…The aetiology of pitryriasis lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLVA) is still obscure but the literature abounds with evidence concerning the possible role of infective agents. These observations are based on reported epidemics of PLVA (Korovitski et al, 1964); in some, outbreaks of pityriasis rosea co-existing (Marshall, 1956); the response of PLVA to tetracycline (Shelley & Griffith, 1969); and surveys incriminating toxoplasma gondii as a common trigger in Bulgaria (Zlatkov & Andreev, 1972), yet not in Iowa (Ceilley & Zuehlke, 1976 suffering from PLVA who presented during a 12-month period when the incidence of PLVA also rose significantly, prompted this survey.…”
