Abstract: The pion decay constant and the fermionic bilinear condensate at finite temperature and density are evaluated in the whole region of broken chirality by using the composite-operator approach to QCD. The critical exponents around the tricritical point (separating first-order from second-order phase transitions) are determined by general thermodynamical arguments.
