“…The mean mechanical lateral distal tibial angle in the eight patients who underwent osteotomy of the distal part of the tibia improved from 83°( range, 79° to 86°) to 90° (range, 86° to 92°). All patients had development of one or more superficial pin-site infections (mean, 1.9 infections per patient), which resolved with oral antibiotics 36 . No patient required intravenous antibiotic therapy.…”

“…The patient was encouraged to bear weight as early as possible, and vigorous physical therapy was instituted to maintain mobility and range of motion of the knee and ankle. Daily showers were instituted as pin care and soft-tissue releases were carried out as needed 36 . The fixator was left in place and was progressively dynamized until complete consolidation of the osteotomy site had occurred.…”

“…Distinct from Paley's association of pin site problems and their diameter [19], the Orthofix pins did not lead to a higher rate of pin site infections in our study. Other authors have also found equal infection rates between half pins and wires [30].…”

“…Pin site care can be nihilistic, with no local cleaning except for what takes place during daily showers begun postoperatively on day 5 (Gordon et al 2000). Dressing should be minimal and foam rubber sponges can be used (Figure 3).…”
