Phytotoxic Diterpenoids from Plants and Microorganisms

Abstract: Phytotoxic natural products with either unique or various structures are one of the most abundant sources for the discovery of potential allelochemicals, natural herbicides, and plant growth regulators. Phytotoxic diterpenoids, a relatively large class of natural products, play an important role in the plant‐plant or plant‐microorganism interactions. This article argues that the phytotoxic diterpenoids isolated from the plants and microorganisms can either inhibit the seed germination and the growth of plant s… Show more

“…As a result, five compounds were isolated from M. glyptostroboides . The structures of five compounds (compounds 1 – 5 ) were elucidated based on the 1 H and 13 C-NMR data, and comparison with relevant references [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. The isolated compounds were identified as taxoquinone ( 1 ), sugiol ( 2 ), suginal ( 3 ), sandaracopimarinol ( 4 ), and sandaracopimaradien-19-ol ( 5 ) ( Figure 2 ).…”

“…Then, the bioassay-guided isolation of ethanol extract of M. glyptostroboides fruits allowed to isolate five pure compounds. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on 1 H- and 13 C-NMR data by comparison with references [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 ]. As a result, compounds 1 – 3 were identified as taxoquinone, sugiol, and suginal, respectively, which are abietane-type diterpenoids.…”

“…Seven terpenoids isolated from Oryza sativa L. husks have antibacterial activity against four pathogenic fungi, such as Fusarium oxysporum Schl., and are phytotoxic to weeds such as barnyard grass (E. crus-galli) of rice fields (Gu et al 2019). Phytotoxic diterpenes inhibit seed germination and seedling growth, and cause disease symptoms in plant tissues and seedlings (Wei et al 2019). Strigolactone can induce colonization of parasitic plants in the Scrophulariaceae and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) (Bouwmeester et al 2007;Gomez-Roldan et al 2008).…”
