Phytochemical content, antioxidant activity, and enzyme inhibition effect ofSalvia eriophoraBoiss. & Kotschy against acetylcholinesterase, α-amylase, butyrylcholinesterase, and α-glycosidase enzymes

Abstract: Many taxa of Salvia genus have been used in herbal beverages, food flavoring, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industry. In this paper, chemical compounds of Salvia eriophora (S. eriophora) leaves were determined by LC–MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry). Salvigenin (158.64 ± 10.8 mg/kg), fumaric acid (123.09 ± 8.54 mg/kg), and quercetagetin‐3.6‐dimethylether (37.85 ± 7.09 mg/kg) were detected as major compounds in the ethanol extract, whereas fumaric acid (555.96 ± 38.56 mg/kg), caffeic acid (… Show more

“…[78] The ABTS •+ scavenging method is based on a previously described method. [32] The 2.0 mM ABTS solution with 2.3 mM K 2 S 2 O 8 oxidizing agent resulted in ABTS cation radicals (ABTS •+ ). The initial absorbance (0.700 ± 0.025) was adjusted with buffer (0.1 mM; pH = 7.4) at 734 nm.…”

“…Aromatic plants of Africa are currently receiving great attention due to their biological and chemical diversities. Many of these plants are widespread throughout the world, and important in African traditional medicine, being used for the treatment of diseases such as malaria, hepatitis, cancer, inflammation, and infections by fungi, bacteria, and viruses (Bursal et al, 2019;Gülçin, Tel, Gören, Taslimi, & Alwasel, 2019;Lawal & Ogunwande, 2013;Tohma et al, 2016).…”

“…According to the results of this study, AChE, BChE, and α ‐glycosidase enzymes were efficiently inhibited by L. cretica extract. TAC (9‐amino‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroacridine) is a reversible inhibitor of esterase and is the first drug for the palliative treatment of AD . The IC 50 values of L. cretica ethanol extract were found as 3.21 mg/mL for AChE, 2.1 mg/mL for BChE, and 2.07 mg /mL for α ‐glycosidase.…”

[34] The IC 50 values of L. cretica ethanol extract were found as 3.21 mg/mL for AChE, 2.1 mg/mL for BChE, and 2.07 mg /mL for α-glycosidase. Tacrine was used as a positive standard for BChE and AChE inhibition and had IC 50 values of 19.11 mg/mL and 12.36 mg/mL, respectively.…”
