Abstract: Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy measurements and simulations are performed on a nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC)/graphite pouch cell. A physico-chemical continuum battery model is extended by a physical ageing model including a Solid Electrolyte Interphase. The model assumes a loss of electrochemically active surface area at anode and cathode as well as a growth of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer thickness. These ageing parameters have been adjusted with an algorithm to achieve agreement bet… Show more

“…For the SEI, there are additional parameters which are taken from Ref. [14] as the SEI is beyond the scope of this study. The model simulated diffusion solely in a single particle per electrode.…”

“…However, for details about the single-particle model, it is referred to Ref. [14], as it is only a tool to derive parameters from impedance spectra. It could be substituted by other tools such as equivalent circuit models.…”

“…[ 25 ] At least two overlapped semicircles were identified at the high frequencies, likely corresponding to the R t;SEI and the R t;a. [ 26 ] The applied charging conditions did not change the impedance response in the high‐frequency region, as shown in Figure 1. On the contrary, the overlapped semicircles made the determination of the R t;a and the R t;SEI difficult.…”

“…Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is often used to quantify SEI properties during aging. [43] Moreover, even more sensitive to reactions and degradation at the surface is the nonlinear version of impedance spectroscopy, nonlinear frequency response analysis. [44] Among other advantages, it enables one to distinguish between plating and cycling aging.…”
