Abstract: BACKGROUND Chikungunya is an arbovirus caused by the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). The symptoms are acute onset fever, joint and muscle pain, headache, nausea and fatigue. These symptoms usually disappear after two weeks, but a percentage of patients has joint involvement for months.
