“…To capture giant anteaters, we searched open areas for individuals foraging, during colder months (May–August) when individuals are known to exhibit greater diurnal activity (Camilo‐Alves & Mourão, 2006). When an adult was spotted, two members of the capture team approached the individual by foot and captured it using two long‐handled dip nets (handle 1.5 m; hoop 0.7‐m diameter) to restrain it (Kluyber et al ., 2021). The veterinarian was then able to safely apply an intramuscular combination anaesthetic injection of butorphanol tartrate (0.1 mg kg −1 ), detomidine hydrochloride (0.1 mg kg −1 ) and midazolam hydrochloride (0.2 mg kg −1 ) into its hind limbs (Kluyber et al ., 2021).…”

“…From 2013-2019, ticks were collected from monitored free-ranging giant anteaters with radio collar in some municipalities (Aquidauana, Campo Grande, Nova Andradina, and Ribas do Rio Pardo) in the state of MS (Supplemental Table S1) (see Kluyber et al 2021 for capture and handling procedures). These municipalities are located in two distinct biomes (Pantanal and Cerrado).…”
