Photo-selective shade nets on the production and quality of sugarcane plantlets

Abstract: Brazil is the world’s largest producer of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) and research aimed at propagation has promoted higher quality in production. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the variation of micrometeorological elements on the survival and quality of pre-sprouted sugarcane plantlets. The study was carried out in a protected environment (UFRPE). Plantlets of the cultivar RB92579 were obtained by the technique of production of pre-sprouted plantlets. The protected envir… Show more

“…The best mean DQI values were found in the SS-3 formulations, similar to those observed by Cordeiro et al (2019). This index measures seedling quality and the equilibrium between their biomass components, with higher index values indicating better seedling quality.…”

“…Ferrari & Leal (2015) obtained an average global solar radiation of 9.2 MJ m -2 day -1 , during cultivation in protected environment covered with low-density polyethylene (LDPE) associated with a thermo-reflective net, in the municipality of Rio das Pedras-SP. Cordeiro Júnior et al (2019), evaluating different photo-selective nets in the acclimation of sugarcane seedlings in a protected environment, covered with anti-UV LDPE, in the municipality of Recife, found global solar radiation of 10.68 MJ m -2 day -1 . By comparing the mean values of Rg for the lighting systems, it is possible to note differences in relation to the control of 0.62 (R:B 70/30), 0.38 (R:B 90/10) and 0.60 (R:B 80/20).…”

“…Special structures, 5.0 m × 6.0 m, were built for the covered treatments to avoid shadows overlapping and allow open‐air circulation (Figure 1). Air temperature ( T air , 29°C ± 0.05), relative humidity (RH, 59.4% ± 0.09), and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR, 1053.9 μmol m −2 s −1 ± 9.3) were monitored at 1.0 m above the ground, corresponding to the mid‐tree dossel, using automatic sensors (S‐LIA‐M003, HOBO Data login Solution ) (Cordeiro‐Júnior et al, 2021). Recorded T air and RH did not differ among open and covered treatments during the day and during the experimental period.…”
