Abstract: The Guapimirim estuary is the main tributary of Guanabara bay and is located in the northeast portion. Although it is protected, this estuary has been experiencing strong anthropogenic pressure, which has led to changes in the natural characteristics. Large amounts of sewage are dumped into the bay through tributaries, thereby changing the water and bottom sediment quality. One of the main elements of sewage is phosphorus. Despite its importance to life, a high concentration of this nutrient in the environment… Show more

“…Spatial variability of sediment particle size is a complex interaction of hydrodynamic processes and geomorphology. The presence of sand reflects stronger hydrodynamic energy (Vicente et al, 2016). The location of this station located at a relatively shallow depth (≤10m).…”

“…Several studies on the phosphorus fraction in sediments have been carried out in China (Yang et al, 2018;Kang et al, 2017;Zhou et al, 2016) and Brazil (Vicente et al, 2016) and Japan (Yamada & Kayama, 1987). Research on the P fraction in Indonesia has been conducted previously by Maslukah et al (2019a), in areas far from the mainland.…”

“…Therefore, the various chemical interconversions of phosphorus, biological effectiveness, the exchange between the sediments and overlying water have been widely studied [8,9]. However, not all the fractions of phosphorus can be released from sediments, and cause lake eutrophication [10][11][12]. Accordingly there are many extraction methods for phosphorus fractions in sediments [13].…”
