Phillyrin is an effective inhibitor of quorum sensing with potential as an anti-Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection therapy

Abstract: In the present study, we evaluated the antibacterial and anti-quorum sensing qualities of phillyrin. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of phillyrin with regard to Pseudomonas aeruginosa is 0.5 mg/m l . The production of virulence factors—such as rhamnolipid (>78.69%), pyocyanin (>85.94%), and elastase (>89.95%)—that affect the pathogenicity of the P. aeruginosa strain PAO1 apparently declined in the presence of 0.25 mg/m … Show more

“…With regard to severe cases, the Chinses herbal injections could obviously alleviate clinical symptoms and correct complications. In particular, Xuebijing injection was widely used for treating patients with critical diseases including sepsis, severe pneumonia, severe acute pancreatitis, infection-induced systemic inflammatory response syndrome, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ARDS, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and so on [104,105]. Moreover, our study highlighted that its clinical beneficial effects in severe cases was closely associated with the inhibition of cytokine storm, improve virus infection and lung injury, superior binding activities with 3CLpro and ACE2.…”
