In fact, a recent large meta‐analysis (2) of available evidence on the efficacy of pharmacological treatment of IBS in children concluded that there was “weak evidence of benefit on medication in children with recurrent abdominal pain. The lack of clear evidence of effectiveness for any of the recommended drugs suggests that there is little reason for their use outside of clinical trials.” The same authors reached essentially identical conclusions when reviewing evidence of efficacy for dietetic interventions (3).…”
