Performance prediction of pump and pumping system based on combination of numerical simulation and non-full passage model test

Abstract: The design scheme of open intake will often increase the shaft length and the height of wet-pit pump house when the range of intake water level varies relatively large. And if the pump house is far away from the discharge bay, a longer discharge pipe may be inevitable, and the arrangement of full passage model pumping system may exceed the allowed size of a specific test bench. Aiming at a long-shaft vertical pumping system with open intake design, larger water level variation and longer discharge pipe, a meth… Show more

“…Improving the performance of centrifugal pump and pump as turbine to achieve high efficiency has been the main goal of pump researchers. Nowadays, numerical simulation methods based CFD provide a powerful and effective means for pump design and optimization, which can not only provide an in-depth analysis of the internal flow, material and energy transfer in the pump flow field, but also provide engineers with quantitative data and visualization results to support decision-making and improvement efforts 8 10 .…”

“…With the rapid development of computer technology, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can produce a more in-depth flow, material and energy transfer analysis of the internal flow field of pumps [3], and the calculated results can provide an important reference for engineers [4,5]. Therefore, numerical simulations based on CFD have become the main research method for mixed-flow pumps.…”
