Performance of Nanosponge and Nanosheet Al- and Ga-MFI Zeolites in Catalytic Pyrolysis of Biomass and Plastics

Francisco Artillo,
Yuyan Zhang,
María del Mar Alonso-Doncel
et al.

Abstract: MFI zeolitic materials in the form of nanosponges (nSP) and nanosheets (nSH) have been synthesized incorporating Al and Ga into the framework. Characterization of the samples by Ar adsorption−desorption and FTIR/pyridine indicates that they present remarkable differences in terms of accessibility (external/ mesopore surface area) and acidity (ratio between the concentration of Brønsted and Lewis acid sites). These materials have been investigated as catalysts in the pyrolysis of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)… Show more

“…MFI zeolitic nanosponges (nSPs) and nanosheets (nSHs) were synthesized by incorporating Al and Ga into the framework for the pyrolysis of low-density polyethylene (LDPE). Due to the higher accessibility, nSP shows superior activity over the zeolitic nSH, reaching a conversion of 84% at 350 °C . ZSM-5 nanosheets modified by Ce (Ce/b-ZSM-5) exhibited a 96.3% conversion with the C 3 –C 5 selectivity of 80.9% during the cracking of LDPE .…”
