“…Of particular interest, however, is the significantly differential reactivity of PV sera with M 1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (mAChR). This finding is in keeping with our previous observations that: (i) patients with PV develop antibodies to the keratinocyte membrane proteins labelled with the muscarinic radioligand [ 3 H]propylbenzilylcholine mustard (28); (ii) blocking of mAChRs in keratinocytes causes acantholysis (29); (iii) activation of keratinocyte mAChRs reverses pemphigus acantholysis in vitro (30); and (iv) the pan‐cholinergic agonist Mestinon (pyridostigmine bromide) stimulates the healing of pemphigus erosions (31). Most recently, the M 1 ‐specific agonist pilocarpine has been shown in a double‐blind, placebo‐controlled study to be therapeutic in patients with PV (32).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Although there were no previous data on Dsg 1 phosphorylation in pemphigus, we (14,31) and others (11,60) have reported an antibody-induced phosphorylation of Dsg 3. Hence, we started our studies with Dsg 1 and 3 phosphorylation assays.…”

“…Also, in a study on litter mates of neonatal athymic nude mice, it was shown that cholinergic agonists (e.g. carbachol and pyridostigmine bromide) can abolish PV IgG‐induced acantholysis 25 . This study showed that cholinergic agonists significantly increase the relative amount of adhesion molecules targeted by pemphigus antibodies.…”

“…carbachol and pyridostigmine bromide) can abolish PV IgGinduced acantholysis. 25 This study showed that cholinergic agonists significantly increase the relative amount of adhesion molecules targeted by pemphigus antibodies. On the other hand, it was revealed that cholinomimetics partially inhibit PV IgG-induced acantholysis by passive transfer of autoantibodies.…”
