“…First, we considered this unexpected and confounding basement membrane finding as an artefact, but a new biopsy and immunofluorescence re-exami nation gave the same result. The ultrastruc tural study showed few desmosomes and altered tonofilament complex as earlier de scribed in pemphigus vegetans [2,3].…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Acantholysis is a phenomenon in which keratino cytes become free after detaching desmosomes. In pemphigus vulgaris (4,5,7,15) and vegetans (7,8). acantholytic keratinocytes show small indistinct attachment plaques of the detached desmosmes.…”

“…The results were compared with the values obtained f r om biopsies of the breasts of 5 healthy middle-aged women studied by Hino et al (10) (Figs. 7,8,9).…”
