Poly(phthalazinone ether nitrile ketone)s (PPENK), as a kind of special engineering plastic, owns various excellent properties. However, high melt viscosity of it brings certain difficulty to processing and restricts its application. In this study, to solve this without decreasing thermal and mechanical properties, poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) was introduced into PPENK (a kind of PPEK) to prepare a new block polymer, PPENK-b-PEEK (Block), through the way of precursor. Due to poor solubility of PEEK, ketimines were introduced to improve its solubility and make molecular weights of it easy to control. FTIR, 1 H-NMR, DSC, TGA, WAXD, the universal test and the rheometer were used to characterize structures and properties of Block. Results showed that the introduction of PEEK into PPENK resulted low melt viscosity, which significantly improved thermoforming performances, and this improvement was enhanced as molecular weights of PEEK were increased. In a word, a novel block polymer with excellent thermoforming performances, heat resistance, mechanical properties was prepared successfully in this way.
