Paget-von Schroetter-Syndrom durch Ringsport

Abstract: Upper extremity thrombosis (Paget-Schroetter syndrome) hints already at physical strains with regard to the synonymous term "effort thrombosis". We report two cases of upper extremity thrombosis caused by wrestling. Wrestling as an example of martial arts activity leads to traumatic venous intima lesions with resulting local activation of coagulation as a main reason in pathogenesis of these thromboses. The possibility of a Paget-Schroetter syndrome should be considered in differential diagnosis if upper extre… Show more

“…Of 34 patients with Paget-Schroetter syndrome, 8 patients showed a temporal and causal relationship of the genesis of the thrombosis to different sports activities (Table I). This group consists of 5 men and 3 women who were from 18 to 58 years old when the thrombosis occurred.…”

“…Ball sports, such as football, have been implicated. Several sporting activities involving abduction and rotation at the shoulder joint have been reported, including wrestling [13] and gymnastics [8]. We have 2 described several conditions associated with erotic dancing, including paraphimosis [6] and fractures of the tibia and fibula [7].…”
