Overview of recent grid codes for wind power integration

Abstract: As wind power penetration level increases, power\ud system operators are challenged by the penetration impacts to\ud maintain reliability and stability of power system. Therefore,\ud grid codes are being published and continuously updated by\ud transmission system operators of the countries. In this paper,\ud recent grid codes, which are prepared specially for the large\ud wind power plants, are analyzed and compared. Also,\ud harmonization of different grid codes in a common manner and\ud future trends are as… Show more

“…Increasing wind power penetration into existing power systems has led to the development of grid technical Various FRT of recent grid codes [13,14] The voltage level at the point of common coupling that fall below the lines shown in Fig. 2 will cause a disconnection of the wind turbine from the grid to avoid any damages that may occur to the WTG.…”

“…Generally, output quality requirements of grid side are much stricter than those of the generator side [36], [62]. To adapt this unsymmetrical requirements for wind power converters, this "compound" configuration employs 3L-NPC topology on the generator side, and 5L-HB topology on the grid side to achieve an unsymmetrical performances, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Most European countries have dedicated grid codes for wind power and they are updated regularly [52]- [62]. These requirements reflect, in most of the cases, the penetration of wind power into the electrical network.…”
