“…This notion is further supported by the finding that there is no difference in the number of total follicles as well as those in small size category between cyclic and acyclic buffaloes. A significantly higher number of small follicles compared to medium-and large-sized ones in both cyclic and acyclic buffaloes possibly suggests that while a large number of follicles enter the common growth phase, only a small proportion develops further to attain the size corresponding to selection (about 7.2 mm) and dominance (8.0-10.0 mm) in the species (Baruselli et al 1997;Ali et al 2003;Gimenes et al 2007). A nearly similar number of medium-and large-sized categories in the group possibly indicates that once follicles attain diameter greater than 7.0 mm, in majority (83.3%) of the cases, they develop further to attain the large size.…”
