Oscillator strengths for spectral lines of Zr III of astrophysical importance

Abstract: The spectrum of Zr III has been observed in the chemically peculiar B-type star Chi Lupi with the Goddard high-resolution spectrograph on the Hubble space telescope. Oscillator strengths for the dipole-allowed fine-structure transitions in Zr III between the levels belonging to the 4d2 and 4dnl (n = 4-6 and l = 1-3) configurations, which may be useful for abundance determinations, have been calculated in the LSJ-coupling scheme using the relativistic quantum-defect orbital method, with and without explicit acc… Show more

“…Atomic energy levels needed for the calculations have been taken from Reader & Acquista (1997) and oscillator strengths when available from Charro et al (1999) and Sikström et al (1999). In the paper of Reader & Acquista (1997) the spectrum of Zr III obtained with sliding spark discharges was observed from 630Å to 4610Å using the 10.7 m normal-incidence vacuum spectrograph.…”

“…From this paper, we obtained the determined energy level configurations and the values of the energy levels. In Charro et al (1999) the oscillator strengths for the dipole-allowed transition in Zr III between the levels belonging to 4d 2 and 4dn configuration have been calculated using the relativistic quantumdefect orbital method. From this paper we obtained the oscillator strengths for matrix element calculations for 4d 2 -4d5p transitions.…”

“…Allowed transitions in ions of metals as Zr have been reported using RQDO method [30], but also interesting in tokamaks are the forbidden lines, which are valuable diagnostic monitors of the ion motion, and of the metal impurity concentrations. For E2 transitions several calculations using this semiempirical method have been performed in order to predict the UV and X-ray spectra for several metals, in particular highly-charged ions as is the case of Ti XII and FeXVI (Figures 3 and 4).…”
