The Paraguay Belt in central South America developed in response to the collision of the Amazonian craton, the São Francisco craton, and the Paranapanema block. The alleged "Brasiliano" age (ca. 620 Ma) of orogenesis has recently been questioned by paleo magnetic and radioisotopic ages that indicate the closing stages of orogenesis occurred well into the Cambrian. We investigated the timing of deposition and source areas for these sedimentary rocks overlying the Amazonian craton using integrated U-Pb and Hf isotope data of detrital zircons from within this sequence. In total, 742 detrital zircon U-Pb ages were analyzed from samples taken from the base to the top of this sedimentary succession. Maximum depositional ages from the uppermost part of this sequence of rocks, the Diamantino Formation, indicate that fi nal deposition began no earlier than 560 ± 13 Ma and possibly as young as the Cambrian. Given that zircon inheritance in these rocks continues up until this age and that known Amazonian craton ages are older than ca. 950 Ma, we considered other potential sources for these sediments. This was achieved by integrating the U-Pb detrital zircon data with Hf isotopic data from these zircons that have ε Hf values ranging from -18 to 12. The ε Hf signature is consistent, with a predominantly Amazonian source until the early Neoproterozoic, at which point the signal becomes signifi cantly more evolved. These data, when combined with other evidence discussed here, are consistent with an ocean to the east of the present-day Amazonian craton that did not close until the latest Ediacaran-Cambrian.

Resumo A Província Granitóide Neoproterozóica do sudeste matogrossense está relacionada à evolução da Faixa de Dobramento Paraguai no limite sudeste do Cráton Amazônico e é constituída por sete corpos ígneos distintos em dois eventos magmáticos intrusivos em rochas epimetamórficas do Grupo Cuiabá. O evento magmático do sul aflora no Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul na forma de intrusões fissurais, alongadas e alinhadas na direção NNE-SSW. As idades modelo T DM obtidas: Taboco (1,97 Ga), Rio Negro (1,59 Ga) e Coxim (1,74 Ga) com valores de ε Nd (0,54Ga) fortemente negativos (-7,0 a -5,9). As idades de cristalizações U-Pb obtidas: Taboco (540 ± 4.7 Ma), Rio Negro (547 ± 4.9 Ma), Coxim (540 ± 3.6 Ma) e Sonora (548 ± 5.9 Ma). O evento magmático norte aflora no Estado do Mato Grosso e é formado por intrusões rapakivíticas de dimensões batolíticas dispostas segundo direção ENE-WSW. As idades modelo T DM obtidas: São Vicente (1,165 Ga), Lajinha (1,508 Ga) e Araguaiana (1,375 Ga) com valores de ε Nd (0,50Ga) fortemente negativos (-2,86 a -5,87). As idades de cristalizações U-Pb obtidas: São Vicente (504 ± 8.9 Ma), Lajinha (505,4 ± 4.1 Ma) e Araguaiana (509,4 ± 2.2 Ma). Os granitóides da parte sul, mais antigos, são gerados em ambientes sin-colisional de arco continental, enquanto os do norte, mais jovens, são gerados em ambientes tardi a pós-colisional ou de descompressão durante a finalização do processo colisional. Ambos os eventos são constituídos por granitóides gerados partir de magmas de fontes distintas e independentes a partir do retrabalhamento de fragmentos crustais distintos, dominantemente ao sul, paleoproterozóicos e ao norte, mesoproterozóicos. Neo-proterozoic Granitic Province of the southeast of Mato Grosso State is related to the evolutions of the Paraguai Folded Belt in the southeast border of the Amazonian Craton. The tectonic evolution of the Transbrasiliano Lineament in northern Paraná Basin, Brazil, as inferred from aeromagnetic data

Data from six airborne magnetic surveys were compiled and analyzed to develop a structural interpretation for the Transbrasiliano Lineament in northern Paraná Basin, Brazil. Magnetic lineaments, interpreted to reflect geologic contacts and structures at different depths, were illuminated using the matched-filter technique applied to aeromagnetic anomalies. Field-based structural measurements generally support our magnetic analysis. We estimated three primary magnetic zones: (i) a zone of deep magnetic sources at 20 km depth, (ii) an intermediate basement zone at 6 km depth, and (iii) a shallow zone of near-surface geological features at 1.5 km depth. The deepest zone exhibits three major NE trending crustal discontinuities related to the Transbrasiliano Lineament, dividing the region into four geotectonic blocks. Anomalies associated with the intermediate zone indicate directional divergence of subsidiary structures away from the main Transbrasiliano Fault, which strikes N30°E. The shallow magnetic zone includes near-surface post-Brasiliano orogenic granites. Our analysis identified NE trending sigmoidal lineaments around these intrusions, indicating intense zones of deformation associated with probable shear structures. At the shallow depth zone, magnetic anomalies caused by Cretaceous alkaline intrusive bodies and basalts of the Serra Geral Formation are enhanced by the matched-filter method. These igneous bodies are related to extensional NW striking lineaments and seismicity aligned along these lineaments suggests that they currently are reactivated. Prior to flexural subsidence of the Paraná Basin, reactivation processes along transcurrent elements of the Transbrasiliano Lineament promoted extensional processes and formed initial Paraná Basin depocenters. Cretaceous and more recent sedimentation also correlate with reactivations of NE striking structures.
