Abstract: The aortic root as a functional unit includes the sinuses of valsalva, valve ring, the leaflets and the commissures. This unit is impaired by the insertion of a bioprosthetic three-leaflet valve. Moreover, bioprostheses fail because of fatigue and flexion stresses.
