Orientation control of regioregular‐poly(3‐dodecylthiophene) films formed by the friction‐transfer method and the performance of organic photovoltaic devices based on these films

Abstract: Control of the molecular orientation of regioregular poly(3-alkylthiophene)s (RR-P3ATs) improves the performance of field-effect transistors and organic photovoltaic devices (OPVs). However, most thiophene ring planes of the RR-P3AT molecules (except RR-poly(3-butylthiophene)) in films formed by the conventional spin-coating method stand on the substrate, that is, edge-on orientation. Orientation control of RR-poly(3-dodecylthiophene) (RR-P3DDT) molecules in films formed by the friction transfer method is repo… Show more

“…16,17 Originally, a polymer aligned film was achieved by the mechanically stretch method in 1995. Mechanical friction is widely applied to prepare aligned film by rubbing the LC film with cloth or a Teflon rod 36,37 or depositing the LC materials onto a rubbed aligned substrate, e.g. LC temperature.…”

“…33,44 Fortunately, the absorption coefficients of these modes are large enough to analyze the molecular orientation in a thin film. Therefore, the (C-H) and (C=C) bands are both quite useful for discussing the orientation of the thiophene ring 11,13,24,44 and the polymer skeleton 33,44 in a thin film ( Figure 5).…”

“…Furthermore, in order to evaluate the orientation of the crystallites regarding the substrate plane, energy-dispersive (ED) GIXD measurements [ 39 , 40 , 41 ] were carried out. The schematic diagram of ED-GIXD geometry is illustrated in Figure 1 b.…”
